Donahue Enjoys Big Game on Senior Day, But Giants Edged by Cyclones

Senior tallies 12 points, five assists, and five rebounds in 64-57 loss to Centenary

La Plume, Pa. – Samantha Donahue (Taylor, PA/Riverside) dished out a team-high five assists to go along with 12 points and five rebounds in the final game of her collegiate career, but visiting Centenary College held on for a 64-57 victory over Keystone College on the Giants' Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.  The Cyclones will enter the CSAC playoffs with an overall record of 13-11 and finish with a 9-7 mark in conference play.   The Giants close the 2015-16 campaign with a 7-17 mark including a 4-12 record in the CSAC.
 
Prior to Saturday's game, Keystone honored Donahue, the lone senior on this year's women's basketball team, along with senior cheerleaders Rachael Ogden, Valeria Lemus, Kaleb Becker, and Terry Joseph Fleming.
 
April Acosta (Bronx, NY/Evander Childs) hit a three-pointer at the 4:18 mark of the first period to cut Centenary's early lead to 11-10, but the Cyclones closed the stanza with a 16-2 run to hold a 27-12 advantage.  The visitors led 32-16 midway through the second period before Keystone rattled off the game's next 11 points, pulling to within five points at the 1:20 mark when Destinee Hall (Spring Valley, NY/Paramus Catholic) converted a pair of free throw shots.  Centenary answered with the next four points before taking a 36-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
 
Mallory George led Centenary with nine points in the opening 20 minutes of play, Melissa Rabe netted eight points, and Rachel Edwards tallied seven points for the Cyclones, who shot 40 percent from the field in the first half while going 3-8 from three-point range and 5-5 from the free throw line.
 
Hall powered Keystone offensively with 11 points while Acosta contributed nine points in the first two periods.  Donahue dished out three assists in the half  for the Giants, who connected on 34.8 percent of their attempts from the floor including a 3-7 showing from long range and a 9-14 effort from the charity stripe.   
 
Centenary pushed their lead to 45-32 midway through the third period before Keystone used a 13-3 run to draw within three points at the 1:53 mark on a layup by Donahue.  The Cyclones countered with a field goal before Hall hit a pair of free throws with 19 seconds remaining in the frame to cut the host's deficit to 50-47 heading into the final quarter.
 
Holding a 52-49 edge with just under eight minutes left in regulation, Centenary used a 9-1 run over the next five-plus minutes to build a 61-50 lead and held on for the victory to lock up the fifth seed for next week's conference playoffs.
 
George paced Centenary with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Rabe added 14 points while Edwards contributed 10 points.  Alexis Wilson dished out a game-high nine assists for the Cyclones, who hit on 36.1 percent of their shot from the floor while going 23.1 percent from three-point land and 89.5 percent from the line.
 
Centenary held a 47-31 advantage on the glass for the game while Keystone was plus-two in the turnover department.
 
Hall finished with a game-high 22 points point while Donahue and Acosta added 12 points apiece.  Donahue dished out five assists while Acosta added a trio of helpers.  Maddy Moro (Danville, PA/Danville Area) finished with a team-leading eight boards and Dyjae Williams (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) tallied seven points for the Giants, who shot 34.6 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 69.6 percent from the line in the loss.
