Immaculata, Pa. – Immaculata University posted a pair of five-inning, run-rule victories of visiting Keystone College to sweep a Colonial States Athletic Conference softball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Mighty Macs improve to 5-15 overall this spring and level their conference record at 4-4 while the Giants slip to 7-11 on the year and 2-4 in league play.
Lindsey Bucklaw (Carbondale, PA/Carbondale Area) led Keystone with three hits on the day to extend her hitting steak to 12 games. The senior has 21 hits in the last 12 contests.
Game 1 Immaculata took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday's opener with a pair of RBI singles, the second of which drove in two runs. The Mighty Macs pushed their lead to 6-0 in the home third, again getting a pair of RBI base hits with a two-run single plating the host's fifth and sixth runs.
Keystone got on the board in the top of the fourth inning when
Kaylee Hartman (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Regional) took home as
Kimberly Rivera (New York, NY/South Bronx Campus) was thrown out stealing second, but the Mighty Macs walked off with the run-rule victory with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, getting a two-run double before ending the game on an RBI single up the middle.
Kelsey Collevechio went 3-4 with three RBIs to lead Immaculata, who held a 12-4 advantage in hits in the opening game. Caitlin Brasier tossed a complete game and allowed four hits while striking out three batters in the win.
Bucklaw had a pair of hits to lead the Giants while Hartman and
Antonette Scialpi (Hughestown, PA/Pittston Area) added hits in the loss.
Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) started in the circle for Keystone and was charged with six runs on nine hits while picking up one strikeout in 2.2 innings. Emily Hughes came on in relief and yielded two earned runs on three hits to go along with one K in the final 1.2 innings.
Game 2 Immaculata jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of Wednesday's nightcap, getting an RBI single and double before Brasier hit a two-run home run.
Keystone cut their deficit in half in the top of the second inning as
Emily Long (Shamokin, PA/Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) came on following an error on a ball hit by Sara Stacey, who came home later inning on a Hartman single. The Mighty Macs answered with eight runs on six hits and one error in their half of the inning though to open up a 12-2 lead.
The hosts tacked on single runs in the third and fourth innings to close out the victory.
Annemarie Bartow went 3-4 with four RBIs to lead Immaculata offensively in the game two win as the hosts outhit the Giants by a 15-3 margin in the contest. Jessica Borman picked up the win on the rubber by tossing a complete game, yielding two runs on three hits while picking up one strikeout.
Bucklaw extended her hitting streak with a second inning double while Long and Hartman also collected hits for Keystone.
Faulkner suffered the loss after seven runs on eight hits in 1.1 innings before Hughes came on in relief and was charged with two earned runs on seven hits while fanning one in the final 2.2 innings.
Up Next Keystone will return home on Friday afternoon for the CSAC doubleheader against Neumann University. First pitch between the Giants and Knights is set for 3:00 p.m. at Edmunds Field in La Plume.
