Strong First Half Carries Cabrini Past Keystone

Cavaliers outscore Giants 13-0 in opening 30 minutes of play in conference win

Radnor, Pa. - Cabrini College outscored Keystone College 13-0 in the first half of Wednesday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game and went on to post a 17-4 victory.  The Cavaliers lift their record to 7-3 overall including a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play while the Giants fall to 2-5 this spring and  1-4 in the CSAC.

Cabrini took control of Wednesday's contest early as the hosts scored 12 goals in the first 13:28 of the game.  The Cavaliers added another goal at the 12:40 mark and would take the 13-0 lead into halftime after outshooting Keystone by a 23-6 margin in the opening 30 minutes of play.

The Giants battled Cabrini much tighter in the second half, with both teams scoring four goals in the second frame.  Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro Area) put Keystone on the board by scoring off an Emily Hawkins (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) assist just under five minutes into the period before the Cavaliers answered with the game's next two goals.  Hawkins netted her team-leading 25th goal of the season midway through the half with Aileen Yaeger (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) assisting on the goal before Cabrini made it a 16-2 game with 11:33 remaining.

Shatia Silas (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and Nina Hodanich (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) tallied back-to-back goals for the Giants before the Cavaliers closed out the scoring with 1:52 left on the clock.

Jenn Robinson (4 goals, 1 assist) and Sasha Wozniak (3 goals, 2 assists) record five points apiece to lead Cabrini's attack.  Megan Barlow picked up the win in goal without making a save while Devon Scharf made six saves in the final 32:44 for the Cavaliers, who held a 32-16 advantage in shots for the game and a 19-16 edge in groundballs.  The hosts also claimed a 14-9 lead in draw controls while both teams committed 21 turnovers on the day.

Hawkins, who lead Keystone with a goal and an assist, tied for the game-high with seven draw controls while Silas added a pair of draw controls.  Emily Hutton (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) paced the Giants defensively with a pair of caused turnovers.  Katelyn Coon (Selden, NY/St. John the Baptist ) tied for a game-high with four groundballs while Yaeger, Hawkins, and Hutton each had three groundballs.

Amber Crews (Plainfield, NJ/Central Jersey College Prep ) suffered the loss in Keystone's cage despite making four saves in the opening 11 and a half minutes before giving way to Coon, who stopped six shots over the final 48 and a half minutes.

Keystone will return home on Saturday for a CSAC matchup against Notre Dame of Maryland University.  Opening draw between the Giants and Gators is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
