Sabovic Strikes Twice to Lead Giants to 3-1 Win at Valley Forge

Keystone scores three unanswered goals to win non-conference game over Patriots

Phoenixville, Pa. – Haris Sabovic (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) scored a pair of goals to lead Keystone College to a 3-1 victory at the University of Valley Forge in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.  The Giants, who overcame an early, 1-0 deficit with three unanswered goals, levels their record at 2-2-1 on the year while the Patriots slip to 2-4 overall.

Valley Forge got off to a fast start in Tuesday's contest as Billy Perron scored just 5:42 into the game, but Keystone dominated play after conceding the early goal, firing off seven shots before Sabovic found the back of the net for the equalizer in the 24th minute.

The Giants continued to dictate play and were awarded a penalty kick in the 41st minute which Sabovic converted.  The senior's second tally of the afternoon and third goal of the season would to be the game-winner.

Keystone held a commanding, 22-3 advantage in shots in the first half, but was forced to settle for the single-goal lead at halftime.

The second 45 minutes of play brought more of the same as the Giants outshot Valley Forge by a 21-1 margin, but were only able to net a third marker when Matthew Sim (Tomball, Texas/Tomball Memorial) scored off of an assist from Aadil Mendez (Manhattan, N.Y./Pocono Mountain East) in the 47th minute.

Keystone had a 44-4 advantage in shots for the game – setting a program record for shots in a game at the NCAA level – and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Steven Heintz, Jr. (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) made one save to pick up his first victory of the season while Aaron Sierra turned in an outstanding, 20-save effort in the loss for Valley Forge.

Sabovic led Keystone with nine shot attempts, Elmer Ramos (Kissimmee, Fla./Lakenheath American) and Mendez took six shots apiece, and Thiago Pinheiro (Curitiba, Brazil/Corona Del Sol) and Kouassi Kouadio (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) were credited with four shot attempts each.

Keystone will be back in action on Thursday night with a no-conference game against Berkeley College (N.J.) starting at 7:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
