La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a convincing, three-set victory over visiting Marywood University in the CSAC volleyball opener for both teams on Tuesday night. The Giants improve to 3-4 (1-0 CSAC) on the season while the Pacers remain winless in 10 matches this fall (0-1 CSAC).
Keystone jumped out to a 2-0 lead by breezing to wins of 25-14 and 25-11 in the opening two sets before closing out its third straight win with a 25-17 decision in game three.
The Giants, who posted a solid, .343 hitting percentage on the evening, were paced by
Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area)'s 12 kills while
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) finished with six kills on the night.
Shannon Monahan (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) chipped in with four kills while
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) posted a match-high six service aces.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) and
Sydney Binkley (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) had three aces apiece with Bowen leading all players with 14 assists. Binkley dished out eight helpers while
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) led the way defensively with 10 digs. Homfeld and
Maddie Roat (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) chimed in with six digs apiece in the win.
Bowen and Zuchowski tied for the team-lead with a pair of blocks each.
Peri Sheerin led Marywood's attack with seven kills, Danielle Delulio had 13 assists, and Jordan Vossler picked up seven digs for the Pacers, who posted a -.026 hitting percentage in the loss.
Keystone will next host Centenary University on Friday evening in a CSAC contest starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.
