Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match With Cairn and Gwynedd Mercy

Homfeld sets single-match record for aces while Zuchowski breaks career mark for aces

Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – Keystone College swept a Colonial States Athletic Conference volleyball tri-match at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday with three-set victories over Cairn University and the host Griffins.   The Giants, winners of their last six matches, improve to 6-4 on the season including a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play.
 
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) set a single-match program with nine service aces against Cairn while Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) broke Keystone's all-time record for aces against the Highlanders.  A day after matching the previous record of 177 set by Lisa Morrissey from 2001-2005, the senior added a pair of aces on the day to move to 179 aces for her career.
 
Match 1 vs. Cairn
 
In Keystone's first match on Saturday against Cairn (1-5, 0-2 CSAC), the Giants made quick work of the Highlanders with the three-set sweep.  Keystone cruised to set wins of 25-10, 25-9, and 25-4 for the dominating win.
 
Homfeld set a single-match school record with nine service aces in the win.  Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) powered the Giants with 12 kills while Zuchowski added 11 kills to lead the team to a .514 hitting percentage. 
 
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) dished out 14 assists to go along with five digs and Sydney Binkley (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) handed out 12 helpers.  Maddie Roat (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) added a match-best eight digs to go along with four aces while Dana Carey (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) picked up six digs.
 
Whitney Seidel and Olivia Smiley had three kills apiece to led Cairn, Liz White had eight assists, and Kylie McCann picked up a team-leading six digs for the Highlanders.
 
Match 2 vs. Gwynedd Mercy
 
In Saturday's nightcap against Gwynedd Mercy (4-6, 1-1 CSAC), Keystone won the first set 25-6 before taking a 2-0 advantage with a 25-14 decision in game two.  The Giants then closed out their fourth three-set win of the week with a 25-8 triumph in the third frame.
 
Zuchowski led the way offensively with 10 kills to go along with seven digs while Bowen and Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) added seven kills apiece as Keystone hit .301 as a team in the win over the Griffins. 
 
Bowen again logged a team-high with 16 assists and had six digs while Binkley put up 12 helpers to pair with five digs.
 
Homfeld added another four aces to go along with a match-high 13 digs while Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) added a pair of aces and 12 digs. 
 
Casey Griffith had a team-high four kills for the hosts, Maggie Gorman added four assists, and Laura Kirk led all players with 15 digs in the loss for Gwynedd Mercy.

Keystone will be back in action on Tuesday night with a non-conference match at the Valley Forge University.  First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.
