Keystone Opens CSAC Slate With 2-0 Win at Marywood

Kouadio and Sabovic score for Giants while Moreira earns clean sheet in goal

Scranton, Pa. – Keystone College scored a pair of second half goals to post a 2-0 victory at Marywood University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer opener for both teams on Saturday night.  The Giants improve to 4-3-1 (1-0 CSAC) on the year after defeating the Pacers (2-5, 0-1 CSAC) in a conference game for the first time in program history.

The win was Keystone's first over Marywood since 2004 when the teams played in seperate conference.  The Giants' shutout also marks the first time the Pacers have been held scoreless in a conference loss since October 30, 2010.

Keystone controlled play for the majority of the first half, generating several dangerous scoring chances.  The Giants nearly broke through in the 28th minute, but Aadil Mendez (Manhattan, N.Y./Pocono Mountain East) saw his shot go off the crossbar.

The two teams entered halftime knotted in a scoreless deadlock with Keystone holding 9-2 advantage in shots.  Marywood keeper Patrick Brogan made a pair of saves to keep the visitors off the board while the Giants prevented the Pacers from putting any shots on target over the opening 45 minutes of play.

Both sides had chances over the opening 25 minutes of the second half before Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute.  Kouassi Kouadio (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) outmaneuvered his defender and a chipped a shot over Marywood backup goalie Tommy McGlennon's head from 10 yards out for his fourth goal of the season.

The Giants iced the win the 86th minute after being awarded a penalty kick.  Haris Sabovic (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.  The senior, who ranks second in the conference in scoring, has now scored in Keystone's last four games.

Keystone goalkeeper Malcom Moreira (Hillside, N.J./St. Benedict Prep) made four saves – all in the second half – to notch his second shutout victory of the season.

Brogan made four stops in the first 63:30 in goal for Marywood while McGlennon made one save in the final 26:30 for the Pacers in the

The Giants held a 16-9 advantage in shots for the game including a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.  Both teams had a pair of corner kick opportunities on the night.

Kouadio, Sabovic, and Ibrahim Tounkara (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) led the visitors with three shots apiece in the win.

Keystone returns to the field next Saturday with a home game against Immaculata University.  Opening kickoff of the CSAC tilt between the Giants and Mighty Macs is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
