Baltimore, Md. – Keystone College scored a pair of second half goals and
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, Pa./Abington) made five saves to lead the Giants to a 2-0 victory at Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action. Keystone improves to 4-3 on the fall and levels its conference record at 1-1 with its second straight shutout win while the Gators fall to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Notre Dame had a slight advantage in play in the first half, outshooting Keystone by a 5-2 margin, but Heintz stopped both shots the Gators placed on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play to keep the contest deadlocked at halftime.
The Giants got off to a fast start in the second half as
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, N.Y./New Paltz) opening the scoring just 53 seconds into the stanza to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The junior's tally was her second of the season, both coming in the team's last two games and would stand as her second straight game-winning goal.
Keystone closed out the scoring in the 66
th minute when Moranski set up
Jordyn Olsen (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) for the visitor's second goal of the game. The freshman's tally was the first of her collegiate career.
Keystone finished the game with a 15-11 advantage in shots including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. The Giants also doubled up the Gators in corner kick opportunities, 8-4.
Heintz's shutout marked the junior's first clean sheet of the season.
Notre Dame goalkeeper Lilly Gordon made six saves in the loss.
Moranski led the Giants with four shots in the game,
Hannah Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View) attempted three shots, and Olsen and
Cassie Ehrhart (Stamford, N.Y./Stamford Central) had two attempts at goal each in the win.
Keystone will return to action on Tuesday with a CSAC tilt at Cedar Crest College. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Allentown.
