Clinton, N.Y. – Hamilton College built a 49-22 lead over the first 20 minutes of play against Keystone College in a non-conference men's basketball contest on Tuesday night and cruised to a 97-46 victory in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. The Continentals lift their record to 14-5 on the year with the win while the Giants fall to 5-14 after suffering their sixth-straight setback.
Hamilton used an early, 23-6 run to stake out a 27-10 advantage with seven and a half minutes remaining in the first half. Keystone scored the next five points, but the Continentals outscored the Giants 22-7 to hold a 27-point advantage at halftime.
Peter Hoffmann paced all scorers with 13 points for Hamilton in the opening frame while Jack Dwyner tallied 11 points for the Continentals, who shot 50 percent from the field and made six three-pointers in the half.
Terrence Palmer (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) and
ShaShawn Drayton (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello) scored six points apiece in the stanza for Keystone as the Giants went 32.3 percent from the field in the first half.
Keystone cut its deficit to 53-29 early in the second half, but Hamilton put any hopes of big comeback to rest with a 23-3 run that gave the hosts a commanding, 44-point advantage with just over nine minutes remaining on the clock.
Hoffmann scored a game-high 20 points and was joined in double-figures by Dwyer (14), Mark Lutz (13), Matt Moros (11), and Kena Gilmour (10). Dwyer dished out six assists while Andrew Groll pulled down seven rebounds for the Continentals, who connected on 50.6 percent of their attempts from the floor in the game while going 46.7 percent from three-point land and 62.5 percent from the stripe.
Palmer led Keystone with 12 points and seven rebounds on the evening while Drayton netted nine points.
Terrence Bowman (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) dished out a team-leading three assists while
Bryan Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Rialto) collected four steals for the Giants, who shot 28.6 percent from the field for the game including a 1-12 effort from long distance while hitting on 65 percent of their attempts from the line.
Hamilton held a 51-31 advantage in rebounding for the game while the Giants were plus-six in the turnover category (21-27) on the evening.
Keystone is right back in action tomorrow night when it hosts Centenary University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference tilt starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.
