Giants Rally to Defeat Cyclones, 3-2

Tounkara scores twice to lead Keystone to win over defending CSAC champions

Hackettstown, N.J. – Ibrahim Tounkara (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) scored twice and Talhah Netherlin (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) added a goal and an assist to lead Keystone College to a 3-2 victory over defending Colonial States Athletic Conference champion Centenary University in a key conference men's soccer showdown on Wednesday afternoon.  The Giants, who overcame a 2-1 second half deficit, improve to 8-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in CSAC action while the Cyclones drop to 4-6-1 on the year and 3-2 in league play.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of play on Wednesday with Centenary holding an 8-6 edge in shots in the period.  Malcom Moreira (Hillside, N.J./St. Benedict Prep) came up with four saves to keep the Cyclones off the board in the first half.

Centenary broke through with the game's first goal 10 minutes into the second half as Justin White beat Moreira off a Matt Miller assist to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Keystone leveled the contest right away as Carlos Bonilla (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) played a thru-ball to Tounkara from the ensuing kickoff for the sophomore to deposit into the back of the net to knot the game up at one-apiece.

The Cyclones went back in front in the 58th minute as Miller scored when Josh Weiss's cross got thru Moreira's hands.

Tounkara pulled the Giants level for the second time of the game by heading home his fourth goal of the season – all of which have come in Keystone's last two games – off a cross from Netherlin.  Netherlin and Bonilla are now tied for the Giants' team lead with four assists apiece on the fall.

Netherlin gave Keystone its first lead of the day in the 69th minute of play by curling a beautiful shot from just outside the 18-yard box inside the far post.  The freshman's team-leading fifth goal of the year would stand as the game-winning goal as the Giants allowed just three shots in the final 21 minutes of play.

Moreira notched the win in goal for Keystone by turning in a six-save effort while Centenary's Devon Warne also made six stops in the loss.

Both team attempted 17 shots on the day with the Giants holding an 11-9 edge in shots on goal.  The visitors also generated 12 corner kick chances to eight for the Cyclones.

Keystone will return home on Saturday to take on Cairn University in a CSAC tilt starting at 4:00 p.m. as part of Homecoming/Family Weekend in La Plume.
