La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College built a 2-0 lead 22 minutes into Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer game against visiting Cairn University and never looked back on its way to a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. The win lifts the Giants' record to 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play while the Highlanders drop to 7-7 this fall and 2-4 in the CSAC.
Prior to Saturday's game, Keystone honored the team's five seniors:
Jalen Freeman (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional),
Steven Heintz, Jr. (Ardsley, Pa./Abington),
Frank Heter III (Andover, N.J./Newton),
Abreham Kittel (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson), and
Rolando Rodriguez (Linden, N.J./Linden).
Ibrahim Tounkara (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) gave Keystone a 1-0 lead exactly 17 minutes by heading in a cross from Freeman after a give-and-go play with
Carlos Bonilla (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) down the right side of the Cairn penalty area. Tounkara's goal was his fifth of the season, all of which have come in the Giants' last three contests.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 22
nd minute as Tounkara played a thru-ball down the right side to Bonilla, who beautifully curled a left-footed shot into the far side-netting. Bonilla's strike was his fourth of the season.
Keystone held the 2-0 lead at halftime along with a 14-5 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes of play. Heintz came up with three big saves to keep Cairn off the board in the period.
Heter gave the Giants a 3-0 advantage in the 70
th minute, lacing home a one-time shot on a Bonilla cross from the end-line. Heter's goal, which would cap the scoring for the day, was his first of the season while Bonilla's second assist of the contest was his team-leading sixth of the fall.
Heintz was strong in net for the Keystone, making eight saves, including several of the spectacular variety, to post the clean sheet, his second of the season. The Giants' six shutouts this season are the fourth most in program history and the most since Keystone began competing at the NCAA Division III level in 2004.
Colin Baker made 10 stops for the Highlanders in the loss.
For the game, Keystone held a 24-11 advantage in shots including a 14-8 lead in shots on frame. The hosts also generated 10 corner kick chances to three for Cairn.
The Giants will host Marywood University in another important conference showdown on Tuesday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. in La Plume.
