La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College erupted for four second half goals to post a 4-0 victory over visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The Giants, who were led by
Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin)'s two-goal, one-assist performance, improve to 5-8 overall while leveling their conference record at 2-2 on the season.
At halftime of Saturday's contest, Keystone celebrated the 40
th anniversary of the 1977 Giants' field hockey team that finished as the NJCAA national runner-up after winning the NJCAA Region 19 championship
Keystone dominated play in the opening 35 minutes of action on Saturday, but was unable to find the back of the cage despite holding a 13-0 lead in shots in the first half. Notre Dame goalkeeper Calenna Cauley made four saves, Emily Garzon added a defensive saves, and the Giants saw several shots go just wide of the post in the frame.
Keystone needed just 34 seconds of action in the second half to finally break through as Robinson one-time a shot home off a pass from the right side from
Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The Giants pushed its lead to 2-0 with a nearly identical goal in the 42
nd minute as Bain again fed Robinson for a one-timer on a fast break. Robison's second goal of the game was her team-leading eighth tally of the fall while Bain's helper was her fifth of the year, also a team-best.
Amy Llewellyn (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) gave Keystone a 3-0 lead in the 55
th minute by punching home her second goal of the season after taking a short feed from Robinson from the center of the goal mouth.
Shelby Croasdale (Nicholson, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) closed out the scoring by netting her fourth goal of the campaign on a penalty stroke with 3:31 left on the clock.
Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) picked up the win in goal for the Giants by making one save in 67:49 of action while
Kali Kishter (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) played the final 2:11 without being forced to make a save.
Cauley finished the day with eight stops for the Gators (1-11, 0-5 CSAC), who also got defensive saves from Garzon, Michaela Seay, and Abby Noble in the loss.
Keystone dominated statistically with a 31-1 advantage in shots for the game while also setting a school record with 26 penalty corners in the game to none for the visitors.
Keystone will host Cedar Crest College in a crucial CSAC contest on Wednesday night starting at 7:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
