Immaculata, Pa. – Carley Preacher scored two goals and added an assist to lead Immaculata University to a 3-2 victory over visiting Keystone College in an important Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon. The Mighty Macs lift their record to 5-6-1 overall and 5-3 in conference play while the Giants fall to 4-8-1 overall and 3-5 in the CSAC.
Immaculata jumped to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goal in the first five minutes of Saturday's contest. Peacher opened the scoring just 1:09 to the contest off a Carrie Quigley assist before setting up Taylor Bracy in the fifth minute to give the Mighty Macs the two-goal advantage.
Keystone got a goal back in the 40
th minute as
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, N.Y./New Paltz) netted her fifth goal of the season off an assist from
Jordyn Olsen (Southampton, N.J./Seneca), who picked up her first helper of the year as the Giants cut their deficit to 2-1 at halftime.
Immaculata, who held an 8-7 edge in shots over the opening 45 minutes of play, restored their two-goal lead in the 63
rd minute with her second goal of the afternoon on a shot that deflected off a defender and in to give the Mighty Macs a 3-1 cushion.
Keystone again made it a one-goal game in the 74
th minute when
Hannah Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View) placed a free kick from 25 yards out into the bottom of right corner of the net for her seventh goal of the year to make it a 3-2 game, but the Giants were unable to find the equalizer in the final 16 minutes of the contest.
Allie Tracey made seven saves to pick up the win for the Mighty Macs while
Rebekah Shepherd (South Canaan, Pa./Western Wayne) turned aside four shots for the Giants in the loss.
Immaculata held a slim16-15 edge in shots for the game, but Keystone had the advantage with a 9-7 lead in shots on goal. The Mighty Macs had the slight lead in corner kicks on the day, 8-6.
The Giants will host Cedar Crest College in a key CSAC tilt starting at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon on the turf field in La Plume.
