La Plume, Pa. – King's College swept a non-conference volleyball match at Keystone College on Thursday evening, spoiling the Giants' Dig Pink Match in the Gambal Athletic Center. The Monarchs lift their record to 18-9 on the season with the win while dropping the Giants to 9-13 overall.
King's opening the match with a 25-19 victory in the opening set on Wednesday night before taking a two-games-to-none lead with a 25-17 decision in the second frame. The Monarchs closed out the three-set victory with a 25-20 win in the third game.
Rachel Miller paced King's with a match-high 11 kills while Hannah Gallagher contributed eight kills. Maddie Kumm led the Monarchs with 26 assists while Miller and Jill Korgeski picked up 10 digs apiece.
Nathalie Ortiz (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) led Keystone with 10 kills and two blocks while
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) put down nine kills for the Giants.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) dished out a match-leading 31 assists for the Giants while
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) led all players with 18 digs on the night to go along with a pair of aces.
Erika Schwoyer (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) added eight digs while Bowen, Larkin, and
Nicki Yeager (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) contributed seven digs in the loss.
King's outhit Keystone .231 to .078 on the night with the Giants coming 24 attack errors to just 10 for the Monarchs. The hosts held a slight edge in digs in the match, 56-52.
Keystone will play a pair of non-conference matches on Friday night at Wilkes University. The Giants will take on Moravian College at 4:00 p.m. before meeting Catholic University at 8:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre.
