La Plume, Pa. – Visiting Neumann University scored 23 of the first 27 points in Saturday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Keystone College and cruised to a 77-41 victory in the Gambal Athletic Center. The Knights lift their record to 4-3 overall with the win and remain unbeaten in conference play at 2-0 while the Giants slip to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC.
Holding an early 5-2 lead, Neumann scored 11 straight points and led by as many as 19 points in the first quarter before holding a 25-8 advantage at the end of the first 10 minutes of play on Saturday.
The Knights opened up a 36-8 advantage with a 10-1 run to start the second period, but the Giants rallied with the final eight points of the stanza to cut their deficit to 36-17 at halftime.
Bre Moore (Charleston, W.Va./Pennwood) opened the scoring the second half with a field goal to cut Keystone's deficit to 17 points, but Neumann countered with 17-5 burst to open up a 53-24 advantage with 2:44 remaining in the third quarter. The Knights would hold a 58-27 lead heading into the final period.
The visitors extended their lead to as many as 48 points while outscoring the Giants 19-14 to close out the victory.
Mariah Maciejewski and Lauren Legler tied for a game-high with 17 points apiece for Neumann while Minika Glenn (12) and Nafisa Saunders (11) also reached double-figures for the Knights, who shot 40 percent from the floor for the game, 44.4 percent from three-point range, and 68 percent from the free throw line.
Moore and
Samy Farah (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) tied for the Keystone team-lead with 10 points apiece while Farah rounded out a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Autum Kitajima (Williamsport, Pa./Wellsboro Area) dished out a team-best three assists and had two steals, matching Farah and Moore for the team-lead.
Maddy Moro (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added nine rebounds and six points while Kitajima also had six points in the loss.
The hosts connected on 31.4 percent of their attempts from the field on the afternoon while shooting 42.9 percent from the line.
Neumann held a 47-42 advantage in rebounding for the game and forced the Giants in 30 turnovers while giving the ball away 14 times themselves.
Keystone will visit Susquehanna University on Wednesday night in a non-conference tilt starting at 7:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
