Keystone Completes Season Sweep of Clarks Summit With 56-43 Win

Giants snap eight-game losing skid with win over Defenders in Think Pink game

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College snapped an eight-game losing skid with a 56-43 victory over Clarks Summit University in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night in the Gambal Athletic Center.  The Giants boost their record to 6-16 on the season and 5-8 in conference play with the win while completing the season sweep of the Defenders following an 81-62 triumph on January 3 in Clarks Summit.          
 
Wednesday's contest was also a win off the court as Keystone celebrated its annual Think Pink Night to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

Clarks Summit (0-20, 0-13 CSAC) built a 16-8 lead over the first eight minutes of Wednesday night's tilt and the Defenders would hold a 21-15 advantage at the end of the opening quarter behind five three-pointers from Mollie Comstock. 
 
Keystone stormed back in the second half, outscoring the visitors 16-4 in the frame to hold a 31-25 advantage at halftime.  Clarks Summit held a three-point lead midway through the period before the Giants connected on three-straight three-pointers and scored 11 consecutive points to open up its largest lead of the half, 31-23.
 
Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) led a balanced offensive for Keystone in the first half with eight points while Hannah Zuchowski (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area), Bryce Garrett (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram), and Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) chipped in with seven points apiece.  The Giants, who were paced by Zuchowski's eight rebounds, connected on 35.1 percent of their attempts from the floor in the opening two quarters while gong 26.7 percent from three-point range.
 
Comstock's 15 points were tops for Clarks Summit while Torri Erdman led the visitors with eight boards.  The Defenders shot 42.1 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes of play including a 60 percent clip from beyond the arc.
 
Keystone netted the first eight points of the third period to open up a 39-25 advantage and would lead by as many as 17 points before taking a 47-32 lead into the final 10-minute frame.
 
Clarks Summit cut its deficit to 11 points with 6:43 remaining in regulation, but the Giants countered with seven of the game's next eight points to put the game out of reach with a 54-37 with 2:48 showing on the clock.
 
Zuchowski finished with career-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds to power Keystone while Hodanich and Robinson added 10 points each in the win.  Robinson, Garrett, and Dyjae Williams (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) dished out four assists apiece while Zuchowski and Hodanich nabbed four steals each.  Williams also blocked a pair of shots for the Giants, who hit on 34.3 percent of their attempts from the floor for the game including a 20 percent showing from long distance.
 
The hosts also held a 43-31 advantage on the glass on the evening and committed 18 turnovers to 30 for the Defenders.
 
Comstock finished with 17 points for Clarks Summit while Erdman added nine points to go along with team-bests of nine rebounds and four assists.  The Defenders finished the evening shooting 35 percent from the floor, 58.3 percent from downtown, and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe. 
 
Keystone will play its final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon when it welcomes Gwynedd Mercy University to the Gambal Center for a CSAC game starting at 1:00 p.m.  The Giants will honor the team's senior along with senior cheerleaders prior to the start of the game.
