Dallas, Pa. – Misericordia University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader for visiting Keystone College on Wednesday, defeating the Giants by scores of 2-0 and 8-3 to level its record at 18-18 on the season. Keystone will take a 10-22 overall record into a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference twin bills this coming weekend to close out the 2017 season.
Game 1
Misericordia won a pitcher's duel between Keystone's
Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and Misericordia's Brooke Moyle in Wednesday's opener as the two teams combined for just seven hits.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single to right center from Melanie Quintanilla.
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) broke up Moyle's no-hit bid with a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Keystone was unable to push a run across before the hosts doubled their lead with an RBI base hit from Abby Marzzacco with two outs in the home fifth.
Moyle finished with a complete-game, three-hit shutout, striking out nine batters without allowing an extra-base hit.
Marzzacco led Misericordia with a pair of hits as the Cougars held a 4-3 edge in hits for the game.
Hughes turned in a strong outing in the circle for Keystone, allowing a pair of runs on just four singles while fanning a pair of batters.
Lloyd,
Emily Long (Shamokin, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional), and
Ryleigh Fitch (Springville, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) accounted for the Giants' three hits, all singles, in the game one setback.
Game 2
Misericordia took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday's second game on as Marzzacco brought home the game's first run with an RBI groundout before Jessie McDonough hit an RBI single.
Keystone cut its deficit in half in the top of the second inning when
Alysa Beyers (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) drove in
Antonette Scialpi (Hughestown, Pa./Pittston Area) with a double to right center to make it a 2-1 game.
The Cougars took control of the game in the home second by plating four runs on five hits to claim a 6-1 advantage, but the Giants pulled to within three runs at 6-3 in the visitor's fourth when
Hunter Schantz (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) launched her team-leading sixth home run of the year, a two-run shot, over the left field fence.
Misericordia wrapped up the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Mackenzie Yurko came home on a double steal before Taylor Kenerson came in on a sacrifice fly from Marzzacco.
Jordan Hoffman picked up the win for Misericordia with two runs against on five hits to go along with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings on the rubber. Moyle allowed one run on one hit in 1.2 innings of work.
Jessica Pluta led all players with three hits in the nightcap while Marzzacco drove in a game-high four runs.
Jordan Hodle (Plymouth, Pa./Lake-Lehman) suffered the loss for the Giants after allowing five earned runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings before being relieved by
Abby Aniska (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland), who was charged with two runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings.
Beyers, Schantz, Lloyd, Scialpi, and
Kaylee Hartman (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional), and
Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) accounted for Keystone's six hits in the game two setback as the Cougars outhit the Giants by a 15-6 margin in the nightcap.

Keystone will host Cairn University in a CSAC doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon at Edmunds Field before wrapping up the 2017 season on Saturday with a home twin bill against Centenary University for Senior Day.
