Altoona, Pa. – Keystone College scored a pair of second half goals to defeat Penn State Altoona 2-0 in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The Giants got a goal and an assist from
Kouassi Kouadio (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) while notching its fourth straight victory to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Keystone had the better of the chances in the first half of Saturday's contest, outshooting the Lions (1-5) 9-4, but Altoona goalkeeper Tanner Yaw made three saves in the opening 45 minutes of play to keep the Giants off of the board.
Keystone broke the deadlock just 5:37 into the second half when Kouadio sent a ball into the middle of the box that
Daniel Zuniga (Lakeland, Fla./McKeel Academy) headed home for his first goal of the season. Kouadio and
Rolando Rodriguez (Linden, N.J./Linden) were credited with assists on the game's first goal.
Kouadio gave the Giants some breathing room in the 80
th minute, taking a feed from
Talhah Netherlin (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and firing home a shot from 15 yards out as the visitors claimed a 2-0 cushion with
Carlos Bonilla (Clermont, Fla./East Ridge) also picking up an assist on the play. Kouadio's tally was his first of the season while Netherlin's helper was also his first assist of the year which brought his team-leading point total to nine this fall. Bonilla and Rodriguez are now tied for the team-lead in assist with three helpers each this fall.
Keystone, which held a 17-8 advantage in shots for the game including a 10-2 lead in shots on goal, held the Lions without a shot on goal after Kouadio's tally to secure its fourth victory in a row, three of which have come by shutout.
Malcom Moreira (Hillside, N.J./St. Benedict Prep) made a pair of saves to notch his second shutout of the year while Yaw finished with eight stops in the loss for Altoona, which held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks on the day.
Keystone will return to action on Tuesday evening when it plays host to Penn State Harrisburg in a non-conference matchup starting at 6:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
