Keystone Tops Gwynedd, Falls to Wells, in Tri-Match

Giants sweep Griffins in CSAC opener before suffering three-set defeat to Express

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College split a volleyball a pair of matches on Saturday in a tri-match as the Giants played their first two home matches of the season.  Keystone (3-6, 1-0 CSAC) opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a three-set victory over the Gwynedd Mercy University before closing the day with a three-set defeat to Wells College.

Prior to Saturday's opening match, Keystone honored Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas), who became just the third player in program history to reach the 1,000 career digs milestone.  Heitman accomplished the feat at last weekend's Profs Invitational against host Rowan University.

Match 1 vs. Gwynedd Mercy
 
In Saturday's opening match against Gwynedd Mercy (3-8, 0-2 CSAC), Keystone won the first set 25-17 before taking a 2-0 advantage with a 25-20 decision in the second game.  The Giants then closed out the victory with a 25-18 triumph in the third set.
 
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) led a balanced Keystone attack with eight kills, Nicole Frascati (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) had seven kills, and Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) chipped in with six kills for the Giants, who hit .282 as a team in the win over the Griffins.
 
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) led all players with 24 assists to go along with six digs and four aces while Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) picked up eight digs and a match-best five aces.
 
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) collected a match-high four blocks for Keystone.
 
Abreeanna Bisenius led Gwynedd Mercy with seven kills, Kerry McGlinn had 15 assists, and Cait Saalfrank picked up a match-leading 14 digs for the Griffins, who posted a .066 hitting percentage in the loss.
 
Match 2 vs. Wells
 
In Saturday's second match against Wells (8-4), the Express opened the match with a 25-19 victory before cruising to a 25-15 decision in the second set.  Wells, who defeated Gwynedd Mercy in four sets in their first match of the day, finished off their 2-0 day by claiming a narrow, 25-22 victory in the third frame.
 
Olyvia Brazier paced the Express with eight kills and 17 digs while Eliza Schwab had 26 assists in the victory.  Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo also added 17 digs for Wells, who hit hit .215 in the victory over the Giants.
 
Beatty paced Keystone's attack with seven kills while Larkin put down six kills and had a pair of aces as Keystone posted just a .031 hitting percentage in the loss.
 
Bowen handed out 21 helpers while Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) totaled 13 digs.  Hardy added eight digs and four blocks in the setback to the Express.
 
Up Next
 
Keystone will host Cabrini University on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.  The conference showdown is a rematch of last fall's CSAC championship won by the Cavaliers in five sets.
