Rosemont, Pa. –
Hannah Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View) capped off her first career hat trick by scoring the game-winning goal with just 3:11 remaining in regulation to lift Keystone College to a 3-2 victory at Rosemont College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
Richner opened the scoring just 4:54 into Saturday's contest with an unassisted tally before giving Keystone (2-3-1, 1-0 CSAC) a 2-0 advantage with a fast break goal in the 20
th minute.
Rosemont (2-4, 0-1 CSAC) got on the board in the 42
nd minute when Maciana Mazzeo scored unassisted.
The Giants held a 2-1 edge at halftime despite being outshot 9-5 over the opening 45 minutes of play thanks to five saves from
Rebekah Shepherd (South Canaan, Pa./Western Wayne) in the half.
The Ravens battled back to knot the score at 2-2 in the 55
th minute as Emily Johnston scored off a feed from Lauren Lightcap.
With overtime looming, Richner netted the game-winning goal in the 87
th minute by tallying her third goal of the afternoon, and fourth of the season, by finding the back of the net with
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) setting up the tally.
Keystone would not allow Rosemont to get another shot the rest of the way to secure its second straight victory.
Shepherd finished the afternoon with seven saves to earn the win while Teagan Dawson made three saves in the loss for the Ravens.
Rosemont held a 15-13 edge in shots for the game including a 9-6 lead in shots on goal. The Ravens also generated nine corner kick chances to four for the Giants.
Keystone will return home on Wednesday evening as it hosts Clarks Summit University in a CSAC contest starting at 7:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
