Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) scored a hat trick and
Jenna Moranski (Gardiner, N.Y./New Paltz) had four assist to set a single-game program record while breaking Keystone College's all-time mark to lead the Giants to a 9-0 rout of Clarks Summit University in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night. The Giants level their record at 3-3-1 on the season while moving to 2-0 in conference play with their third straight victory.
Moranski's four helpers topped the previous program record of three she shared previously did twice as did Samantha Littleford. The senior forward brought her career assist total to 17, breaking the career mark of 16 that Littleford previously established from 2010-2013.
Keystone's nine-goal output was the highest for the program since beginning competition at the NCAA Division III level and the most since the Giants scored 11 goals during the 1998 campaign. Keystone also tied a program record by attempting 35 shots in the contest, a mark that was previously set in 2010.
Keystone opened the scoring eight and a half minutes into Wednesday night's contest as Cortes finished off a shot to the far post after taking a long thru-ball from
Jordyn Olsen (Southampton, N.J./Seneca), who picked up her first assist of the season.
Clarks Summit (0-6, 0-2 CSAC) responded with a flurry of chances including a shot that hit the crossbar in the 15
th minute. Keystone pushed back and nearly took a two-goal lead, but shots by
Riley Hayes (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison) and Cortes were both cleared of the line by backs from the Defenders in the 19
th minute.
Hannah Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View) broke through with the game's second goal in the 26
th minute, scoring on a breakaway for her fifth goal of the year.
Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) set up the Richner's tally for third helper of the fall as the Giants claimed a 2-0 lead.
Cortes pushed Keystone's advantage to 3-0 in the 31
st minute, scoring her second goal of the game on another breakaway with Moranski and
Kristy Hansen (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) assisting on the goal.
The Giants held the three-goal lead at halftime after outshooting the Defenders 20-7 over the opening 45 minutes of play.
Cortes completed her first career hat trick 1:35 into the second half, collecting a loose ball and firing her team-leading seventh goal of the year into the upper-90 to give Keystone a 4-0 cushion.
Shiffer netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the 51
st minute by knocking home a rebound after Moranski's shot was saved before
Shauna Menzella (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley) tallied the host's sixth goal by blasting home a shot from 22 yards out for her first marker of the season.
Richner netted her second goal of the evening and sixth of the season in the 60
th minute by slotting home a shot on a breakaway before
Amber Smith (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) netted the Giants' eighth goal and her third of the year in the 62
nd minute. Moranski assisted on both goals to set a Keystone single-game record with four assists, bringing her season total to seven.
Jayleen Galeno (Passaic, N.J./Scranton) closed out the scoring in the 78
th minute, netting her second goal of the season by knocking home a rebound after her first shot was saved.
Rebekah Shepherd (South Canaan, Pa./Western Wayne) made two saves in the first half to pick up the win.
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, Pa./Abington) added a pair of stops in 35:07 of action while
Haley Gobla (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) closed out Keystone's first shutout of the year with one save in the final 9:53.
Heidi Butterbaugh made 12 saves in the loss for Clarks Summit.
Keystone outshot the Defenders 35-10 on the evening including a 24-5 lead in shots on goal. The Giants also generated 11 corner kick chances to none for the visitors.
Keystone will host Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon in a CSAC contest starting at 1:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
