Morrisville, N.Y. – Keystone College's volleyball team opened the 2017 campaign by splitting a pair of matches on Saturday at Morrisville State's Tournament played at Morrisville-Eaton High School. The Giants (1-1) swept Alfred State College in Saturday's first match before falling to MIT in three sets in their second match of the day.
Match 1 vs. Alfred St.
In Saturday's opener against Alfred State (0-2), Keystone raced out to a quick 2-0 advantage with wins of 25-11 and 25-10 in the opening two sets. The Giants then closed out the match with a 25-17 decision in the third frame to give first-year head coach
Chris Summa his first win at Keystone.
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) recorded a match-high 12 kills on 16 total attacks to go along with four service aces and a pair of blocks.
Nicole Frascati (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) collected 11 kills and a match-best six aces to pace Keystone's attack, which finished the match with a .400 hitting percentage and 17 aces.
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) added eight kills and seven digs while
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) led all players with 31 assists in the contest.
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) picked up a match-leading 13 digs in the victory to go along with five helpers and a trio of aces.
Madison Webster led Alfred State with three kills, Emily Congdon had 10 assists, and Bryanna Godfrey and Valerie Intini had four digs apiece for the Pioneers, who had a .000 hitting percentage in the loss.
Match 2 vs. MIT
In Saturday's nightcap against MIT (2-0), the Engineers won the opening set 25-21 before taking a 2-0 advantage with a hard-fought, 29-27 decision in game two. MIT closed out their second victory of the day with a 25-18 triumph in the third set.
Lisette Tellez collected a match-high 13 kills to go along with eight digs to pace the Engineers in the win. Andie Maloney dished out 24 assists while Carly Silvernale picked up a match-leading 17 digs for MIT, who hit .193 as a team against the Giants.
Frascati put down a team-leading seven kills and served up four aces for Keystone in the loss while Hardy and Beatty had six kills apiece.
Bowen put up 18 assists to go along with nine digs and five kills while Heitman paced the Giants with 16 digs in the loss.

Nathalie Ortiz (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) added two blocks apiece for Keystone, who hit just .010 as a team in the setback to MIT.
