Morrisville, N.Y. – Keystone College's volleyball team swept Norwich University in three sets on Sunday to close out the Morrisville State Tournament with a 2-1 record to open the season.
The Giants cruised to a 25-10 win in Sunday's first set before claimed a two games to none advantage with a 25-18 decision in game two. Keystone close out its second sweep of the weekend with a 25-13 victory in the third frame.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) had a strong all-around performance to pace the Giants in the victory, posting match-highs of eight kills and 23 assists to go along with seven digs and three service aces. Bowen's eight kills came on just 11 total attacks for an outstanding, .636 hitting percentage on the day. The sophomore would go on to be named to the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the matches later on Sunday.
Amanda Hardy (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) added seven kills while
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) and
Nicole Frascati (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) added six kills each for Keystone, which hit .196 as a team in the win.
Frascati served up a match-best four aces while
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) and
Erika Schwoyer (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) added a trio of aces each.
Pamela Heitman (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) led all players with 15 digs against Norwich while
Nathalie Ortiz (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) had a pair of blocks as Keystone held the Cadets to a -.011 hitting percentage in the match.
Julia Schroeder led Norwich (0-2) with six kills, Emily Oliver had 12 assists, and Michele Zummo picked up 11 digs in the loss.
Keystone will next play in the Profs Invitational hosted by Rowan University on Friday and Saturday in Glassboro, New Jersey. The Giants opened the tournament at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night against Dickinson College.
