La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College remained perfect in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer play this fall with a 3-0 victory over visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday afternoon.
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) scored twice for the Giants while
Kristen Hlavaty (Scott Twp., Pa./Lakeland) added a goal and an assist as Keystone improved to 4-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the CSAC with its fourth straight win, the last two of which have come by shutout.
Keystone dominated play in the first half of Saturday's contest, outshooting Notre Dame by a 12-3 margin, but was unable to solve Gators' goalkeeper Loren Pardoe, who made seven saves in opening 45 minutes of play, several of which were of the spectacular variety.
Sarah Heintz (Glenside, Pa./Abington) added one stop in the first stanza for the Giants to keep the game scoreless at the break.
Keystone finally solved Pardoe seven and a half minutes into the second half when Cortes scored her eighth goal of the season.
Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) started the play with a long ball over the top of the Gators' defense to Hlavaty, who slotted a ball across the box to Cortes, who one-touched the ball into the far side-netting for the game's first goal in the 53
rd minute.
Hlavaty gave the Giants some breathing room in the 69
th minute, scoring her first collegiate goal by one-touching home a shot from close range off a cross from
Hannah Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View) with
Tristin Williams (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) also picking up an assists on Keystone's second goal.
Cortes closed out the scoring in the 89
th minute by heading in a corner kick served in by
Rebecca Lewis (Abingdon, Md./Aberdeen) for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Heintz made two saves to notch her first shutout of the season for Keystone, which held a 30-5 advantage in shots for the game and a 7-2 lead in corner kick chances.
Pardoe finished the day with 15 stops for Notre Dame in an outstanding effort in net for the Gators.
Keystone will visit Gwynedd Mercy University on Tuesday night for a CSAC contest starting at 7:00 p.m. in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania.
