Aston, Pa. – Keystone College earned a three-set sweep at Neumann University in Colonial States Athletic Conference volleyball action on Wednesday night, dealing the Knights their first conference loss this fall. The Giants improve to 5-9 overall while the Knights slip to 7-12 this fall. Both teams sport identical 3-1 marks in conference play.
In a rematch of last year's CSAC semifinal match that Keystone won in three sets, the Giants won Wednesday evening's opening game 25-20 before take a 2-0 advantage with a dominating, 25-6 score line in the second set. The third set proved to be a much tighter battle, with Keystone closing out the three-set victory with a hard-fought, 27-25 decision in the third frame.
Taylor Beatty (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) posted a match-high 10 kills for Keystone, who got seven kills from
Nicole Frascati (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers), six kills from
Kristen Larkin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown), and five kills from
Nathalie Ortiz (New Milford, N.J./New Milford).
Victoria Homfeld (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) picked up a match-best 14 digs, one ahead of Larkin, who totaled 13 digs in the win.
Malley Bowen (Owego, N.Y./Tioga Central) led all players with 26 assists in the contest and finished tied with Larkin for the match-lead with three aces apiece.
Rachael Hoffman led Neumann with seven kills while Carlee Herrin put up 16 assists and nine digs to pace the Knights, who had a .000 hitting percentage as a team in the loss.
Keystone will return to the court on Saturday afternoon with a CSAC match at Notre Dame of Maryland University. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Maryland.
