Field Hockey Opens CSAC Slate With Shutout Win at Neumann

Robinson has a goal and assist while Novak posts shutout in goal for Keystone

Aston, Pa. – Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) and Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) scored first half goals while Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) made four saves to lead Keystone College to a 2-0 victory at Neumann University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey opener for both teams on Saturday.  The Giants lift their record to 4-5 (1-0 CSAC) on the season while dropping the Knights to 1-6 (0-1 CSAC) this fall.

Keystone opened the scoring 13 and a half minutes into Saturday's contest when Robinson punched in her team-leading fifth goal of the year, finding the back of the cage off a pass from Rebecca Dempster (Boonton, N.J./Boonton), who notched her first assist of the fall on the game's first goal.

The Giants pushed their lead to 2-0 in the 31st minute of the contest when Bain tallied her third goal of the season and second in the last two games by putting home a shot with Robinson picking up her third assist of the year on the goal.

Keystone held the two-goal cushion at halftime while outshooting Neumann 9-2 in the first half.

Neither team was able to find the back of the cage in the second half with the Giants still controlling much of the play, holding an 8-2 advantage in shots over the final 35 minutes of action.

Novak earned the win in goal for Keystone, posting her second shutout of the fall by turning aside four shots while

Lizzie Yu made 10 saves in the loss for Neumann to keep the hosts in the contest.

The Giants held a commanding 17-4 advantage in shots for the game including a 12-4 lead in shots on goal.  The visitors also created nine penalty corner chances to just one for the Knights.

Keystone will host FDU-Florham in its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday afternoon.  Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. on the turf field in La Plume.
