La Plume, Pa. – 110 minutes of play was not enough to determine on Thursday afternoon as Keystone College and the Pennsylvania College of Technology battled to a 2-2 tie in non-conference women's soccer action.
Penn Tech (0-1-1) opened the scoring just 6:46 into Thursday's contest as Tiffany Brown finished a shot from the left side of the box to the far post after running onto a thru-ball from Jane Herman.
Keystone (0-2-1) leveled the contest at 1-1 in the 21
st minute when
Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) headed in her third goal of the season and third tally in the last two games off a corner kick serve from
Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove). Shiffer's assist marked the first point of the freshman's collegiate career.
The score remained deadlock at one-apiece at the conclusion of the first half with the Wildcats holding a 10-5 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes of play.
Penn Tech reclaimed the lead in the 67
th minute when Christina Weber one-touched a cross from Francesca Timpone from the right side into the back of the net to give the Wildcats a 2-1 edge.
The Giants again found the equalizer, this time in the 75
th minute, when
Jordyn Olsen (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) knocked home a rebound off a ball off the post following a scramble on a Keystone corner kick for her first goal of the season.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net despite several good chances at both ends of the field over the final 15 minutes to send the game to overtime knotted at 2-2.
In extra time, Penn Tech held a 4-1 advantage in shots, but Keystone goalkeeper
Rebekah Shepherd (South Canaan, Pa./Western Wayne) made a pair of key saves to in overtime to preserve the draw for the Giants.
Shepherd finished the afternoon with six saves in her first start of the season.
Millie Landry made two saves in the first half for the Wildcats while Taylor Gonzalez made five saves over the final 65 minutes of action in the visitor's net.
Keystone will return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon with a non-conference game against Greensboro College that will be played at Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore. Opening kickoff between the Giants and Pride is set for 1:00 p.m.
