Second-Half Surge Lifts Pacers Past Giants, 70-57, Tuesday

Hodanich, Moore combine for 37 points

SCRANTON, Pa.—Keystone College overcame a 10-point first-period deficit, built up a five-point lead by intermission, but couldn't hold off Marywood University,70-57, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action Tuesday evening at the Insalaco Arena.

Senior guard Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) led the Giants with 19 points, freshman guard Bre Moore (Charleston, W.Va./Pennwood) added 18, and sophomore center Maddy Moro (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) finished with nine points and 10 rebounds as the Giants dropped their second straight game to fall to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Marywood, now 6-8 overall and 4-1 in the CSAC, was led by freshman guard Erika Bistran with 18 points and junior guard Gab  Giordano came close to registering a triple double with 13 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.  The Pacers also received 12 points apiece from junior guard Alyssa Olson and freshman guard Aryah Aungst.

It looked like it might be a long night for the Giants early, as they fell behind 16-6 in the first period.  Hodanich then gave Keystone the spark it needed, burying five of six shots from the field en route to scoring 13 points as the Giants stormed back to take a 31-26 lead at halftime.

After struggling to find the range in the first half, the Pacers got untracked and shot nearly 57 percent from the field to regain the momentum and build up a 51-45 lead after three periods.  Marywood broke it open midway through the fourth quarter with an 11-2 spurt that turned a five-point advantage into a 14-point cushion with 4:09 remaining.

Moore also finished with eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block and Moro had two blocks and a steal for Keystone, which will conclude a three-game road trip this Thursday, January 11, against Centenary University in Hackettstown, NJ, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
