Richner’s Two Goals Propels Giants Past Wilson 4-2

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Oct. 13, 2018 - Junior Hayden Richner (Nicholson, Pa./Mountain View) scored twice and tallied one assist as the Keystone College women's soccer team registered four unanswered goals to defeat host Wilson 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in CSAC action.

With the victory, the Giants move to 3-10, 3-2 CSAC and will return home to host Penn College tomorrow at 12 pm in non-conference action. Wilson, meanwhile, drops to 4-8, 1-5 CSAC.

The Phoenix scored in the 10th minute and 28th minute to put Keystone in a 2-0 deficit. However, with just 32 seconds remaining in the opening half, Richner beat the keeper with a lower right corner shot, thanks to a feed from sophomore Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove), to cut into the Wilson lead, 2-1.

In the 56th minute, senior Nisa Cortes (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) notched her sixth goal of the year - off an assist from Richner - beating the keeper top right corner for the equalizer, knotting the match at 2-2. In the 58th minute, the Giants claimed their first lead of the day as senior Jayleen Galeno (Passaic, N.J./Scranton) was fouled hard in the box and Richner converted the ensuing penalty kick to hand Keystone a 3-2 edge.

Shiffer tallied her second goal of the year off a feed from Cortes in the 76th minute to hand Keystone a 4-2 lead. In the 87th minute, the Wilson bench was assessed a red card.

For the match, Keystone outshot Wilson 18-14, with 12 shots on frame. Richner and Shiffer led all players with five shots apiece.

Junior keeper Rebekah Shepherd (South Canaan, Pa./Western Wayne) earned the win while making seven saves against the Phoenix.
