BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - Oct. 20, 2018 - The Keystone College field hockey team earned the program's second-ever Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) No. 1 seed in the upcoming postseason with Saturday's 6-0 win at Bryn Athyn.
With the league victory, the Giants improve to 12-4 (7-0 CSAC) and return home to host Cedar Crest on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 4 pm before gearing up for the CSAC playoffs. Keystone has now won eight straight games and is 5-1 at home this season. The Lions fall to 2-9 (1-5 CSAC).
By earning the No. 1 seed, Keystone now awaits the winner of the CSAC/NEACÂ crossover game on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The CSAC/NEAC Championship game - with an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs on the line - will be at Keystone on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 pm.
The Giants earned the program's last No. 1 seed by going 8-0 in the CSAC during the regular season back in 2009 as Keystone finished with a 14-3 overall mark.
Junior Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) enjoyed a nine-point afternoon, tallying three goals to go along with three assists in addition to leading all players with 14 shots (nine on goal).
Senior Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) notched two goals and one assist while sophomore Taylor Cercone (Dallas, Pa./Lake Lehman) recorded one goal.
Junior Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) earned the victory and made four saves in the cage. Senior Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) played the entire second half.
Robinson scored unassisted goals in the sixth & 16th minutes to give Keystone a 2-0 advantage before Cercone scored in the 33rd minute off a feed from Robinson to hand the Giants a 3-0 cushion going into halftime.
Bain caged her first score of the day in the 41st minute - assisted by Robinson - and Robinson then followed with a goal of her own in the 45th minute. Bain concluded the scoring for the Giants in the 61st minute, off a feed from Robinson.
