Smith Tallies Hat Trick in 6-2 Win Over Husson

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Oct. 6, 2018 - Senior Alex Smith (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) enjoyed a hat trick as the Keystone College field hockey team defeated Husson University 6-2 in the opening day of the Albertus Magnus Tournament on Saturday.

With the win, the Giants improve to 6-4 and will face Sweet Briar College tomorrow at 11 am. Husson, meanwhile, drops to 1-8.

Junior Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) scored the opening goal of the day in just the third minute to give Keystone an early 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Smith caged her first of the day to hand the Giants a 2-0 edge less than eight minutes into the contest.

In the 18th minute, Smith tacked on her second of the day - assisted by Robinson - to increase the Keystone advantage to 3-0. Senior Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) tallied a goal in the 28th minute - assisted by sophomore Jackie Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) - to wrap up the first-half scoring for Keystone.

In the 61st minute, Smith completed her hat trick off a helper from senior Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) and Robinson capped off her two-goal day with a tally in the 65th minute.

The Giants outshot Husson 15-5 on the day, with 13 shots on cage, and held an 8-3 edge in penalty corners.
