Women’s Basketball Falls to Valiants 63-43 in Season Opener

La PLUME, Pa. - Nov. 8, 2018 - Three student-athletes tallied 10 points apiece in head coach Kristina Danella's first game for the Keystone College women's basketball team, but the Giants fell to visiting Manhattanville College 63-43 in the 2018-19 season opener on Thursday night.

Keystone falls to 0-1 and will look to rebound on Saturday, Nov. 10, hosting John Jay College at 2 pm. The Valiants improve to 1-0. In a pre-game ceremony, the Giants paid respects to honoring veterans for Military Appreciation Night.

Sophomore Khaliah Gordon (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Wood), senior Mayah Kitchen (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and junior Maddy Moro (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) all scored 10 points each to lead the Keystone offense. Gordon contributed eight boards and three helpers while Moro grabbed five rebounds.

Sophomore Bre Moore (Charleston, W.Va./Pennwood) tallied five points, six assists and nine rebounds while sophomore Faith Shiffer (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) and sophomore Samy Farah (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) both scored four points each.

Following a close 16-13 first quarter in favor of Manhattanville, the Valiants outscored the Giants 14-8 in the second session to claim a 30-21 halftime lead. The third quarter was the turning point of the contest as the Valiants outscored Keystone 24-10 to hand the Giants the season-opening defeat.
