Giants fall to Christopher Newport on day 2 of Armstrong/Diamond Invitational

Keystone held to one hit Saturday

Fayetteville, NC—All good things must come to an end, even for Keystone College senior pitcher Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame).

Terzi, who fashioned a 9-0 record last spring, suffered his first loss as a Giant, allowing only six hits over seven innings and striking out 10 in a 6-0 loss to Christopher Newport University on day 2 of the Armstrong/Diamond Invitational Saturday.

Problem was his counterpart, CNU sophomore Thomas Packert, was nearly flawless.  He held Keystone to just one hit while striking out eight over seven innings to pick up his first win in his third start this year.  Sophomore relief pitcher Brian Owens was just as effective, too, striking out six while holding the Giants hitless the rest of the way to help the Captains improve to 4-1.

Junior Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) broke up Packert's bid for a no-hitter with a one-out double down the right-field line in the seventh inning for Keystone, which will wrap-up the invitational tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. against DeSales University

Junior catcher Ryan Grubbs had three hits and scored twice and junior Seth Woodard delivered a two-run single for Christopher Newport, which belted out eight hits altogether, including doubles by junior Jordan Mason and sophomore Andrew Suppa.
