DeSales rallies for a 5-4 win over Giants in day 3 of Armstrong/Diamond Invitational Sunday

Medina belts home run and double to lead Keystone

Fayetteville, NC—DeSales University rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 victory over Keystone College in day 3 of the Armstrong/Diamond Invitational Sunday.

Junior Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) provided much of the offense for the Giants today, belting a solo home run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3, then smashing an rbi double in the seventh to give Keystone a 4-3 lead.  He finished with three hits.

The wheels, however, came off for Keystone in the bottom of the seventh, as the Bulldogs took advantage of an error and a passed ball to score two unearned runs.   Junior Charlie Barebo drove in the tying run for DeSales with a double, moved up to third-base on the passed ball, and then ended up scoring the game-winning run on a wild pitch.

The Bulldogs finished with just six hits, but four of them were doubles.

DeSales' starting pitcher Andrew Schuler went six innings, scattered eight hits and struck out five before giving way to three relievers who held the Giants to just one hit over the final three innings.  Senior Konner Schneider was the most effective, going 2 and 1/3 innings and did not give up a hit to pick up the victory.

Keystone got a solid pitching effort from starter Christopher Adams Jr. (Brooklyn, NY/Franklin K. Lane), who struck out five and allowed only three earned runs in 6.1 innings of work.  Senior Tyler Widitz (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) took the loss, despite striking out four and not allowing an earned run in an inning and two-thirds of work.

Senior Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and juniors Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) and Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask) each belted a double for Keystone, which will return to action on Friday, March 2, against Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
