HACKETTSTOWN, NJ—Keystone College split a doubleheader with Centenary College in its Colonial States Athletic Conference opener Tuesday afternoon.
The Giants dropped a 10-5 decision in the opener but came back to post an 8-0 win in five innings behind a 1-hit pitching effort from sophomore
Abby Aniska (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland).
Keystone is now 2-10 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC, while Centenary is 1-7 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Game 1 – Keystone built up a 3-0 lead in the first inning and extended it to 5-1 before the Cyclones stormed back with an 8-run rally in the fifth and added another run in the sixth to pull out the victory.
Freshman
Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) led the Giants with two hits, including a triple, and senior
Ryleigh Fitch (Springville, Pa./Tunkhannock Area), sophomores
Gabrielle Truesdale (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackanna Trail) and
Ashley Constable (Bangor, Pa./Bangor Area), and junior
Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) each belted a double to pace Keystone's 9-hit attack. Truesdale drove in two runs and Mokychic and sophomore
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) finished with an RBI apiece.
Senior Ashley Eisenstein led the Cyclones with two hits and drove in three runs and sophomore Justine Stefura and seniors Carolyn Clites and Sammie Darling finished with two hits apiece to pace Centenary's 14-hit attack.
Game 2 – After Aniska gave up a single to Eisenstein in the first inning, she held the Cyclones hitless the rest of the way as Keystone snapped a two-game losing streak. Sophomore
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) had two hits, including a two-run home run in the fourth inning and a double, and Monetti had two hits and drove in three runs. Mokychic also finished with two hits for Keystone, which scored three times in the second inning, twice more in the third, and added another run in the fifth after Lloyd's two-run home run in the fourth.
The Giants will return home to host Cabrini College in a CSAC doubleheader this Thursday, March 29, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
