Gaints fall to Otterbein in first of eight-game Spring Break trip Friday

Freshman pitcher Nathan Hinkley turns in solid relief effort

Port Charlotte, Fla.—The Keystone College baseball team's struggles at the plate continued today against Otterbein University in the first of an eight-game Spring Break trip.

The Giants, who entered today's game hitting just .152, managed only four hits in dropping a 10-0 decision.  The loss drops Keystone to 1-4 while the Cardinals improve to 7-4.

Senior pitcher Stevie Yuran put on a masterful performance for Otterbein, striking out 11 and walking only one batter in going the distance to even his record to 1-1.  He limited the Giants to just four singles, two by junior Mohammed Hussein (Queens, NY/William C. Bryant) and one each by juniors Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) and Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton).

Offensively, the Cardinals pounded out 14 hits, including two each by juniors Tyler Thompson and Connor Britt and seniors Dom Guzzi, Bryan Stopar, and Pat Birrer.  Britt inflicted most of the damage, driving in five runs with a three-run triple in the second inning and a two-run single in the ninth.

Despite the loss, freshman pitcher Nathan Hinkley (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Lucie West Centennial) came on in relief for Keystone in the third inning and turned in a solid performance, striking out five, scattering four hits, and allowing only one earned run in six innings of work.

The Giants will take on Heidelberg University (Ohio) tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.
