La PLUME, Pa.—With a showdown against Neumann University in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) looming Saturday, Keystone College tuned up for it by defeating backyard neighbor Clarks Summit University, 24-2, Friday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.
The Giants belted out a season-high 26 hits, including three each from juniors
Jared Campione (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic),
Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) and
Mohammed Hussein (Queens, NY/William C. Bryant), to improve to 20-7 overall and 8-0 in the CSAC. Senior
Ty Christian (Williamstown, N.Y./Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) hit a home run and drove in three runs and junior
Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) and
Sebastian De La Cruz (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) each finished with two hits and three RBIs.
Keystone broke it open with an 11-run rally in the third inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and never looked back.
Senior Connor Kopnik led the Defenders, now 0-19 overall and 0-6 in the CSAC, with three hits and junior Domingo Rodriguez and sophomore Andreas Bailey each finished with a hit and an RBI.
Neumann comes into Saturday's game undefeated but has played two less conference games than the Giants. The 7-inning game of the doubleheader starts at 12 noon, with the 9-inning nightcap slated to begin by 3:00 p.m.
