Giants sweep Neumann to take over sole possession of first place in the CSAC
La PLUME, Pa.—Keystone College took over sole possession of first place in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) by sweeping a pair of games from Neumann University Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.
In the opener, senior pitcher
Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame) put on another dominating performance, striking out a season-high 13 batters while allowing only three hits en route to a 6-0 complete game victory. He has not allowed an earned run in each of his last two outings and has four complete games in nine pitching appearances. He also lowered his earned run average to 1.45.
Sophomore
Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) led the Giants with two hits, including a home run in the fourth inning to give Keystone a 2-0 lead. Keystone also received two hits from junior
Mohammed Hussein (Queens, NY/William C. Bryant) and senior
Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central) drove in two runs with his fourth double of the season during a four-run rally in the sixth.
Senior Joey Pedorenko had two of the Knights' three hits.
In the second game, the Knights exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning to erase an 8-2 deficit, but the Giants pushed two runs across the plate in the bottom half of the frame and held on to a 10-9 win. Junior
Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton), who finished with two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs, drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
Hussein, Curreri, and junior
Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask) each finished with three hits apiece and Hussein, McFadden, and junior
Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) each drove in two runs for the Giants, now 22-7 and 10-0 in the CSAC. With the losses, Neumann falls to 15-17 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
McFadden started for the Giants on the mound and went seven innings and allowed only two earned runs. Senior
Tyler Widitz (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) came on in relief was got the win by striking out three in an inning and two-thirds of work.
Keystone will take on Marywood University this Tuesday, April 24, at Pacer Field in Scranton.
