CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.—Freshman
Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) and sophomore
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) combined for seven hits and 13 RBIs to lead Keystone College to a sweep of Clarks Summit University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action Thursday afternoon.
The Giants picked up two must-needed victories to keep their CSAC playoff hopes alive. With one conference doubleheader remaining, this Saturday at Marywood, Keystone is now one game ahead of Cedar Crest and tied with Marywood in the win column for the last spot in the six-team format.
In the first game today, Mokychic had two hits, including a triple, and drove in six runs and Lloyd finished with two hits, including a home run and a triple, and had four RBIs as the Giants won 15-3 in five innings. Keystone also received two hits, including a double, from freshman pitcher
Lauren Smith (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and freshman
Heaven Houck (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) had a hit and drove in two runs.
Smith started the first game of her career today and struck out two while scattering eight hits.
In the second game, Mokychic and junior
Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) drove in two runs apiece to lead the Giants to a 10-0 win in five innings. Keystone jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a run-scoring double by senior
Ryleigh Fitch (Springville, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) and Monetti keyed a three-run rally in the second by driving in two runs with a single to right field. Junior pitcher
Ashley Constable (Bangor, Pa./Bangor Area) improved her record to 5-5 by limiting the Defenders to three hits while striking out six.
With the wins today, Keystone improves its overall record to 13-25. The losses drop Clarks Summit to 3-31 overall and 1-19 in the CSAC. Freshman Molly Ayala had two hits and drove in three runs for the Defenders in the first game and junior Allison Glennon belted two hits in each game.
