River Hawks snap Giants’ 9-game winning streak Thursday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field

Hussein extends hitting streak to 10 games for Keystone

La PLUME, Pa.—Veteran Susquehanna University baseball coac Denny Bowers may have found a way to slow down Keystone College Thursday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.

He used six pitchers, none of whom threw more than two innings, as the River Hawks snapped the Giants' season-long nine-game winning streak with a 7-3 victory.

With the win, Susquehanna improves to 6-12 on the season while Keystone falls to 12-6.

It was more than pitching that kept the Giants off-balance today.

Susquehanna belted out 15 hits, including three each by freshman Steve Lorenz and sophomore Craig Roumes and two apiece by sophomore Justin Miller and freshmen Jack Carroll and Luke Tuttle.  The River Hawks erased an early 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Lorenz and an RBI single by freshman Ryan Casey in the second inning and added two more in the sixth when Roumes drove in two runs with a single.

In the seventh, Miller drove in a run with a double to ignite a two-run rally and Lorenz added an RBI single for an insurance run in the eighth.

Of the six pitchers utilized by Bowers today, none allowed more than two hits.

Junior Dakota McFadden (Rocky Point, NC/Heide Trask) led Keystone with two hits and junior Mohammed Hussein (Queens, NY/William C. Bryant) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single in the eighth inning.   Keystone also received a hit apiece from juniors Johann Paniagua (Bronx, NY/James Monroe Campus High School) and Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton), senior Robbie Nardelli (Eynon, Pa./Valley View), and sophomore Alejandro Monteverde (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua).

The Giants will open their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) schedule this Saturday, April 7, with a doubleheader against Cabrini University in Radnor, Pennsylvania, beginning at 12:00 noon.
