La PLUME, Pa.—Cabrini University spoiled Keystone College's home opener at Edmunds Field today, sweeping a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader.
The Cavaliers took advantage of five errors by the Giants in the opener to score four unearned runs en route to a 7-4 victory. In the nightcap, Cabrini jumped out to a 7-0 lead and held on for an 11-6 victory.
The wins improved Cabrini to 8-8 overall and 4-2 in the CSAC, while Keystone falls to 4-12 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Game 1 – Winning pitcher
Jess Giordano limited Keystone to just five hits and helped her own cause with a double and drove in two runs as the Cavaliers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Giants closed the gap with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the seventh. Freshman
Ahsiah Cintron finished with two hits and drove in two runs and senior
Alexandria Ramos had two hits and scored a run for Cabrini, which finished with nine hits overall.
Sophomore
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) finished with two hits, including a two-run home run to right center field in the fourth inning. Losing pitcher
Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge), who struck out four and allowed only three earned runs, also had two hits and sophomore
Ashley Constable (Bangor, Pa./Bangor Area) singled and scored a run for Keystone.
Game 2 – Giordano and junior
Darian Caputo paced Cabrini's 15-hit attack with three hits apiece and Ramos, sophomore
Alexandra Schell, junior
Marisa Alpaugh, and freshman
Amber Seamen contributed two hits apiece. Freshman pitcher
Casey Schueren went the distance and struck out three batters to improve her record to 4-2.
Lloyd blasted her second home run of the day, a two-run shot to left center field to ignite a four-run rally in the third inning. She finished with two hits and the Giants also received two hits apiece from senior
Kaylee Hartman (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) and freshman
Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area). Mokychic opened the seventh inning with a double and sophomore
Ashley Constable (Bangor, Pa./Bangor Area) drove in senior
Ryleigh Fitch (Springville, Pa./Tunkhannock Area), who reached on a fielder's choice. Keystone also picked up a run when sophomore
Gabrielle Truesdale (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) stole home with the bases loaded.
The Giants will return to CSAC action on Saturday, April 7, against Immaculata University at Edmunds Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.
