Bain Strikes Twice at Keuka in 4-1 Win

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - Sept. 12, 2018 - Senior Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) scored twice while sophomores Jackie Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and Taylor Cercone (Dallas, Pa./Lake Lehman) added goals to send the Keystone College field hockey team past Keuka 4-1 on Wednesday.

The Giants (2-2) surrendered a goal less than two minutes into the contest to the Wolfpack (1-3) and went into halftime down 1-0.

After some intermission adjustments, Keystone knotted the contest up at 1-1 thanks to Bain in 39th minute. Less than two minutes later, Martin found the back of the cage off an assist from junior Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin), to hand a 2-1 lead to the Giants.

In the 44th minute, Bain scored her second of the night and fourth of the year, off an assist from Robinson, to put Keystone ahead 3-1. Cercone wrapped up the scoring in the 63rd minute, thanks to a feed from Bain.

Bain moved into sole possession of third place all-time with 22 goals, passing Sheryl Avery (1976-78) who accrued 21. In addition, Bain now is tied for fifth most assists in a career with 12 (Brianna Paulson - 2013-16).

Keystone outshot Keuka 16-4, including an 11-2 margin in the second half.

Junior keeper Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) earned the start and played the first half, making one save. Senior Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) played the entire second half and made one stoop.

The Giants will head to King's on Monday, Sept. 17 at 7 pm followed by a home match against Elmira on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 pm.
