Field Hockey Holds Off Elmira for 2-1 Win

La PLUME, Pa. - Sept. 19, 2018 - Freshman Carlee Sherman (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) scored her first career goal while senior Kayla Bain (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) tallied her fifth of the year as the Keystone College field hockey team held off Elmira College 2-1 on Wednesday evening.

Sherman scored in the third minute of action off an assist from junior Savanna Robinson (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin), to give the Giants (3-3) the early advantage.

Bain notched her fifth of the season and 23rd of her career, thanks to an assist from sophomore Jackie Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale), right after halftime in the 36th minute, to put the Giants ahead 2-0.

Elmira cut the lead down to one in the 54th minute but Keystone was able to hold off the Soaring Eagles (1-5) to claim the non-conference victory.

Keystone held the edge in shots, 12-6, and penalty corners, 11-3. Senior Emily Hawkins (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) earned the start and the win while junior Megan Novak (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) played the entire second half, making four stops.

The Giants travel to Wilson in the 2018 CSAC opener on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 pm.
