NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Keystone College softball team went 1-1 on Monday to begin the 2019 campaign, defeating Morrisville State 9-5 in five innings before falling to Lycoming, 7-6.
The Giants (1-1) play Franciscan (1-1) and Mount Aloysius (3-1) tomorrow, at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
Morrisville State falls to 0-2 while Lycoming improves to 2-0.
Keystone 9, Morrisville State 1 (5 innings)
Sophomore
Lauren Smith (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) hurled five innings, scattering just three hits while striking out five Mustangs to earn the win. At the plate, Smith went 1-for-2.

Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) and junior
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) both went 3-for-3 and combined for six runs and three RBI.
Sophomore
Heaven Houck (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) finished with two RBI while freshman
Jessica Troy (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Middle), sophomore
Baylie Reed (Olyphant, Pa./Valley View) and junior
Mariah Loughney (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) all logged one hit apiece. Senior
Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) registered one RBI.
In total, the Giants tallied 11 hits against Morrisville.
Lycoming 7, Keystone 6
Despite jumping out to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play, the Giants fell to the Warriors in Monday's second contest.
Keystone totaled 12 hits as freshman
Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) and Lloyd both went 3-for-4 with one RBI each. Johnson also scored twice.
Loughney went 2-for-4 while Troy, Mokychic, Hughes and senior
Gabrielle Truesdale (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) all collected one RBI and one hit each.
In the circle, Hughes suffered the defeat while striking out four and walking three.
