Softball Enjoys Wins Over Clarks Summit & Dean

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) finished the day 6-for-8 with two homers and eight RBI as the Keystone College softball program enjoyed a pair of wins on Thursday, defeating Clarks Summit and Dean.

The Giants (3-3) wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow, March 15, playing Medaille College from Buffalo, New York at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 11:30 a.m. contest with Fitchburg State College from Massachusetts.

Clarks Summit and Dean both drop to 0-6 on the season.

Keystone 18, Clarks Summit 4 (5 innings)

The Giants enjoyed a seven-run first and a six-run fourth en route to the 12-run victory.

Lloyd had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4, including a two-run homer in the third and an RBI triple in the first, and finished with four RBI and four runs scored, just a double shy of the cycle.

Senior Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while freshman Jessica Troy (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Middle), sophomore Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area), sophomore Heaven Houck (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and junior Mariah Loughney (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) all notched two hits each.

Sophomore Lauren Smith (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) earned the victory in the circle, striking out five while forcing nine ground outs.

Keystone 16, Dean 5 (5 innings)

The Giants scored three runs in the second and third frames and exploded for nine runs in the fourth to run away with their second win on Thursday.

Lloyd had another great game, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run bomb in the fourth. Through six games this season, Lloyd is batting .650 (13-for-20) with two homers and 13 RBI.

Junior Kassadi Woods (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson) enjoyed a 2-for-3 outing with four RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Lexi Johnson and Mokychic both tallied two hits each as Johnson drove in a pair.

Hughes earned the win against the Bulldogs, as she struck out five while recording six flyouts and six groundouts.
