Softball Defeats Medaille, Falls to Fitchburg to Wrap Up Spring Break

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Keystone College softball team defeated Medaille 6-5 in eight innings before falling to Fitchburg State 17-5 in five innings to wrap up the program's Spring Break trip.

The Giants head back to La Plume with a 4-4 overall mark and will look to play at Wilkes on Wednesday, March 20, starting at 4 p.m. The Mavericks fall to 4-8 while the Falcons improve to 6-4.

Keystone 6, Medaille 5 (8 innings)

Sophomore Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) ripped the walk-off single to center field in the bottom of the eighth to score senior Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) as the Giants defeated the Mavericks.

Overall, Keystone had 11 hits as Mokychic, Monetti, freshmen Jessica Troy (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Middle) and Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) all had two hits apiece

Senior Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) earned the victory in the circle, going all eight innings while striking out two and allowing just one walk. Hughes forced eight groundouts and 12 flyouts in the win.

Fitchburg State 17, Keystone 5 (5 innings)

The Falcons used a 13-run second frame and took advantage of three Keystone errors in the final game of Spring Break for the Giants.

Keystone tallied six hits from six different players as junior Mariah Loughney (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland), senior Gabrielle Truesdale (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) and sophomore Heaven Houck (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) enjoyed one RBI each.
