Softball Drops Doubleheader to Scranton

La PLUME, Pa. - Freshman Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) enjoyed a two-run homer in game one but the Keystone College softball team fell to the visiting University of Scranton 14-2 and 12-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

With the losses, Keystone drops to 4-10 overall and the Giants head to Saint Elizabeth tomorrow starting at 3 p.m. before returning home to host Cairn in the CSAC opener on Saturday, March 30 at 12 p.m.

Scranton improves to 15-5 and the Royals host Catholic in Landmark action on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Scranton 14, Keystone 2 (Game One)

The Royals scored six in the first, three in the second and four in the third in game one.

Keystone finished with five hits as Johnson went 2-for-2 at the leadoff spot, including the homer to center field. Senior Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge), freshman Jessica Troy (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Middle) and senior Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) all collected singles.

Hughes suffered the loss in the circle, striking out six while throwing 101 pitches.

Scranton 12, Keystone 1 (Game Two)

The Royals scored six times in the first and added two runs in the second, fourth and fifth in the nightcap.

The Giants tallied three hits as Johnson, Monetti and senior Gabrielle Truesdale (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) all collected base knocks.

Sophomore Lauren Smith (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) was tagged with the defeat, walking one on 71 pitches.
