Softball Splits at Saint Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Keystone College softball team broke a seven-game losing streak on Thursday and salvaged a split at the College of Saint Elizabeth, taking game one, 9-3, before falling 5-4 in game two.

The Giants are now 5-11 on the year and return home to host Cairn University in the CSAC opener on Saturday, March 30 at 12 p.m. Saint Elizabeth is now 10-4.

Keystone 9, St. Elizabeth 3 (Game One)

The Giants offense erupted for 12 hits as sophomore Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) and junior Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) both went 3-for-4.

Mokychic finished with three runs and two RBI and ripped a pair of doubles while all three of Lloyd's hit were doubles, coming in the 1st, 6th and 7th frames, as she finished with four RBI.

Freshman Jessica Troy (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Middle) and senior Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) both collected a pair of hits while freshman Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Senior Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) picked up the win and is 3-5 on the year. Hughes struck out six while walking seven and allowed two earned runs.

St. Elizabeth 5, Keystone 4 (Game Two)

The Giants outhit the Eagles 10-7 as Mokychic finished 2-for-4 with one RBI. Hughes finished with two RBI, coming in the sixth and seventh innings.

Junior Mariah Loughney (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) enjoyed an RBI double to left center in the second and Lloyd drew three walks.

Sophomore Lauren Smith (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) was pegged with the loss as the righty went the distance, giving up the five earned runs while striking out two and walking six.
