Softball Sweeps Clarks Summit in CSAC Action

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. - The Keystone College softball team swept host Clarks Summit University on Thursday afternoon in CSAC play, taking game one, 10-2 in five innings before winning game two, 11-0, also in five frames.

With the two wins, the Giants improve to 10-18 (5-1 CSAC) and will host Notre Dame of Maryland in CSAC action on Saturday, April 13 at 12 p.m. The Defenders fall to 5-19 (0-6 CSAC).

Game One: Keystone 10, Clarks Summit 2 (5 innings)

The Giants tallied 13 hits and scored four runs in the second and three runs in the third to open up the day with a win.

Five players finished with two hits -  freshman Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy), sophomore Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area), junior Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll), senior Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) and junior Kassadi Woods (Trumansburg, N.Y./Charles O. Dickerson).

Johnson went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI at leadoff, finishing with a double and a triple. Lloyd and Hughes both ripped triples and Mokychic and Woods finished with doubles.

Hughes earned her fifth win of the spring, striking out three while forcing 10 groundouts and two flyouts.

Game Two: Keystone 11, Clarks Summit 0 (5 innings)

The Giants scored seven runs in the first two innings and added four more in the fourth to run away with the game two win.

Lloyd enjoyed a 3-for-3 game with four RBI and two runs scored, including a solo homer to left center in the fourth. Through 28 games this year, Lloyd is batting .560 with nine homers and 37 RBI.

Johnson put together a 2-for-2 outing with two RBI and two runs scored while Mokychic, senior Samantha Monetti (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and freshman Brittany Vasquez (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) all tallied one RBI.

Sophomore Lauren Smith (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) earned her fifth victory of 2019, tossing the complete game shutout while striking out four Defenders.
