La PLUME, Pa. – The Keystone College softball team swept visiting Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday in CSAC action, taking game one, 14-2 in five innings, before winning game two, 3-2.
The Giants are now 12-18 (7-1 CSAC) and are set to host King's College on Monday, April 15 at 3 p.m. The Gators drop to 7-9 (1-5 CSAC).
Senior
Alyssa Hughes (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) also organized the Strikeout Cancer game as the team raised funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) and the day was capped off with a home run derby after game two.
Game One: Keystone 14, Notre Dame 2 (5 innings)
The Giants exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the first and tacked on three more in the third.
Overall, Keystone had 13 hits and took advantage of six errors by the Gators.
Junior
Shannon Lloyd (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) went 3-for-3 with four RBI while junior
Mariah Loughney (Jermyn, Pa./Lakeland) went 2-for-4. Senior
Gabrielle Truesdale (Tunkhannock, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) went 1-for-2 with two RBI while sophomore
Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) enjoyed a 2-for-3 outing with four runs scored.
Freshman
Jessica Troy (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers Middle) went 1-for-4 with two RBI and sophomore
Heaven Houck (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) drove in one run.
Hughes earned her sixth win of the spring, allowing one earned run while striking out five, tossing 63 pitches.
Game Two: Keystone 3, Notre Dame 2
Both teams finished with 10 hits as Lloyd, Hughes and freshman
Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) all collected two hits each. Johnson ripped an RBI triple to right center in the fifth.
Tied at 2-2 in the fifth, Mokychic reached on a bunt that scored Johnson to give Keystone the one-run lead.
Sophomore
Lauren Smith (Scotrun, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) earned her sixth win of the spring, allowing two runs and striking out seven, tossing 123 pitches.
